After finding the frying pan of their dreams on a yearlong trip abroad, this family started an importing business that allows them to keep exploring the world.

Nathan and Kathrin Spaccarelli decided they wanted a different life for themselves and their children. After selling most of what they owned and taking a yearlong sabbatical from work, they returned from travelling with a completely different purpose.

They wanted to bring their love of entrepreneurship and travel into an income-earning project that worked for the whole family. Through a podcast, they discovered the Fulfillment by Amazon Program, where Amazon stores goods for you and ships them out whenever orders come in. Perfect! They just needed the right product.

During their world trip, they came across a health, non-stick ceramic pan at a market in Italy. They knew they had a winner, since most pans in the U.S. and Canada are Teflon pans that contain a chemical that raises health and environmental concerns. Their new pan wasn’t only better but could be used on the stovetop or in the oven.

They tracked down the manufacturer and customized the pans to accommodate a few design elements. They launched their cooking line under the name “DaTerra Cucina”, and the pans flew off Amazon’s shelves.

They managed to earn over $200,000 in sales by the end of the first year in business. Now they have added three more pan sizes and expect to cook up even greater revenues.
